3 best CodeRabbit alternatives for AI code review in 2026

CodeRabbit alternatives compared for 2026: cubic, Qodo, PR-Agent and GitHub Copilot, with current pricing, supported Git hosts and benchmark scores.

Alex Mercer

Updated October 2026 with current pricing, platforms and benchmark results.

The three CodeRabbit alternatives worth testing in 2026 are cubic (cubic.dev), Qodo with its open-source sibling PR-Agent, and GitHub Copilot. Pick cubic for review accuracy on complex GitHub codebases, Qodo or PR-Agent for self-hosting and non-GitHub hosts, and Copilot if you already pay for it and want the least setup.

Founded in 2023, CodeRabbit became popular as one of the early AI reviewers inside pull requests. We compared it with the main AI code review tools on Git hosts, price and Martian's independent benchmark.

One disclosure: cubic is our product, so weigh what we say about it accordingly.

Why developers look for CodeRabbit alternatives

CodeRabbit automates pull request reviews and flags common issues early. For small teams or straightforward codebases, that’s often enough. Teams start looking at alternatives to CodeRabbit when they need:

  • Higher accuracy on complex codebases with cross-file dependencies

  • Deeper understanding of business logic, beyond syntax and style

  • Less noise and more concise comments

  • Self-hosting below enterprise scale: CodeRabbit offers a self-hosted version only on Enterprise, for customers with 500 or more seats

  • A different way to pay: pooled credits, a Copilot plan they already have, or a free self-hosted tool instead of another per-developer subscription

When CodeRabbit is still a good fit

CodeRabbit remains a sensible choice for:

  • Small and hobby repositories (CodeRabbit reviews public repositories for free)

  • Early-stage teams

  • Teams that want linter and SAST results alongside AI review comments

  • Teams on GitLab, Bitbucket or Azure DevOps, which CodeRabbit supports alongside GitHub

  • Large organizations that need a self-hosted deployment and have 500 or more seats

It also ranks near the top of Martian's online benchmark (results below). If it already works for your team, switching may not pay off.

Top CodeRabbit alternatives in 2026

1. cubic: AI code review for complex codebases on GitHub

Best for: Engineering teams on GitHub with complex codebases, where review accuracy matters most

cubic is used by teams at n8n, Cal.com, Better Auth and Browser Use, and by Cartography, a Linux Foundation project. It checks every PR against the whole codebase rather than the diff alone, which matters for business logic and for changes that span several files and services. It works with GitHub only.

What sets cubic apart

  • Accuracy on complex logic
cubic is designed to catch issues that need deep context, such as race conditions in payment flows or state inconsistencies in distributed systems. On the online tracker of Martian's Code Review Bench, it has the highest F1 score of the 14 tools ranked: 65.3%, against 61.8% for CodeRabbit (last-month view, checked October 4, 2026). Precision is the share of a reviewer's comments developers acted on, recall is the share of real fixes it caught, and F1 balances the two.

  • AI-generated fixes
Click Fix with cubic, or tag @cubic-dev-ai, and a background agent writes the fix in an isolated sandbox, usually in 1 to 3 minutes, then pushes it to the PR branch or opens a fix PR. Fix with cubic is included in Pro and Max.

  • Analytics and ROI tracking
Dashboards cover AI coding, AI review and delivery, including time to merge against your pre-cubic baseline. Review analytics come with Team, Pro and Max; AI coding tracking and the Analytics API need Pro or Max.

  • Issue tracker awareness
Integrations with Jira, Linear, Asana and GitHub Issues bring ticket context into reviews, so cubic can check that a PR meets the ticket's acceptance criteria.

  • Adaptive learning
cubic learns from your team's replies and thumbs up or down on its comments, and from the past PR comments of senior reviewers you choose.

  • Low noise
On the same Martian tracker, developers acted on 72.0% of cubic's comments, against 70.0% for CodeRabbit.

  • Scans of the entire codebase

Codebase scans run thousands of AI agents to find serious bugs and vulnerabilities across a whole codebase, beyond new PRs. Scans are in beta and available by request; Pro and Max include them for up to 3 repositories.

Other features

  • GitHub App setup: pick repositories and new PRs get reviewed automatically

  • Custom org-wide rules

  • CLI to run AI reviews locally

  • SOC 2 Type 1, with TLS 1.2+ encryption in transit and AES-256 at rest

CodeRabbit vs. cubic

CodeRabbit covers four Git hosts; cubic covers GitHub only and scores higher on Martian's online tracker, with 65.3% F1 to CodeRabbit's 61.8% (last-month view, checked October 4, 2026). If your code is on GitHub and review accuracy matters most, cubic is the stronger choice for complex production systems. For a side-by-side breakdown, see cubic vs CodeRabbit.

2. Qodo and PR-Agent: Best self-hosted CodeRabbit alternatives

Best for: Teams needing self-hosting or using GitLab, Bitbucket or Azure DevOps

Qodo (formerly CodiumAI) built Qodo Merge as the hosted, enterprise version of PR-Agent, an open-source AI PR review tool. The two have since split: Qodo Merge became Qodo, a commercial multi-agent code review platform for pull requests, the IDE and the CLI, and Qodo donated PR-Agent to the open-source community. PR-Agent is now community-maintained under the MIT license, with 13,256 GitHub stars as of October 4, 2026.

Why teams choose Qodo and PR-Agent

  • Multi-platform support
Qodo works with GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket and Azure DevOps, plus Gerrit on Enterprise. PR-Agent supports the same four hosts plus Gitea.

  • Self-hosted deployment
A self-hosted PR-Agent sends your code only to the model provider you configure, and it can run local models through Ollama. You can read its code and customize its prompts and behavior.

  • Flexible deployment options
Docker, the CLI, webhooks, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, and Bitbucket and Azure DevOps pipelines.

  • A hosted platform when you want one
Qodo's paid plan adds agentic PR review, a rules system, IDE integrations, analytics, and commit-ready fixes for small findings.

Trade-offs to consider

  • Setup complexity
Self-hosting PR-Agent means configuring and maintaining it yourself, and you supply the model through your own API keys or a local model.

  • Mixed benchmark results
Qodo Code Review ranks #9 on Martian's online tracker (57.8% F1, last-month view, checked October 4, 2026), but Qodo's Deep configuration leads Martian's offline benchmark of 50 hard-to-find bugs (as labeled Sep 8, 2026). PR-Agent isn't ranked, and its README says each tool makes a single model call per run.

  • Support model
PR-Agent is community-maintained, so help with edge cases may be slower than from a vendor. Qodo's paid plans include standard support, with priority support on Enterprise.

CodeRabbit vs. Qodo

Both support GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket and Azure DevOps, so the difference is self-hosting. CodeRabbit offers it only on Enterprise for 500 or more seats. Qodo's Enterprise plan offers single-tenant SaaS, on-prem and air-gapped deployments, and any team can self-host PR-Agent at no license cost.

If data residency or open-source control matter more than plug-and-play simplicity, Qodo or PR-Agent is the better alternative.

3. GitHub Copilot: Easiest to try for existing Copilot users

Best for: GitHub-native teams that already pay for Copilot and want AI review without adding a vendor

GitHub Copilot added PR review to its code completion product. Since March 2026, Copilot code review runs on an agentic architecture that pulls in repository-wide context.

Why teams use Copilot for code review

  • Minimal setup
Add Copilot as a reviewer from the Reviewers menu, or turn on automatic reviews with a personal setting or a repository ruleset.

  • Familiar workflow
Review comments appear like human reviewer feedback, with suggested changes you can apply in one click.

  • Bundled pricing
Paid Copilot plans include an allowance of AI credits that reviews draw from, for example 1,500 credits on Pro and 1,900 per user on Business (1 credit = $0.01). Copilot Free doesn't include PR review.

Limitations

  • Comment-only by default
Copilot's review doesn't count toward required approvals unless an admin turns on Copilot approvals, a public preview since September 1, 2026.

  • Doesn't read replies
GitHub's docs say Copilot can't see replies to its comments and may repeat comments you dismissed when it reviews again.

  • Two meters to watch
Since June 1, 2026, each review uses AI credits plus GitHub Actions minutes on private repositories. GitHub estimates $0.05 to $1 in credits per review at Lite effort and $0.25 to $5 at Balanced, not counting Actions minutes. Balanced has been the default since September 28, 2026.

CodeRabbit vs. GitHub Copilot

CodeRabbit gives you more ways to steer a review, such as comment commands and custom pre-merge checks (Team and above), and it runs on GitLab, Bitbucket and Azure DevOps as well as GitHub. On review quality the two are close: CodeRabbit scores 61.8% F1 and Copilot 61.0% on Martian's online tracker (last-month view, checked October 4, 2026).

If you already pay for Copilot, it's the quickest way to experiment with AI code review; if you need more control over how reviews run, a dedicated tool fits better. For a broader overview, see our guide to GitHub Copilot code review alternatives.

Greptile has the highest precision in this view (79.0%); if it's on your shortlist, our CodeRabbit vs Greptile comparison covers how those two differ. PR-Agent doesn't appear on the board.

Treat any single snapshot with care. The board moves daily, and CodeRabbit, Qodo, Greptile and cubic have each reported a #1 result on this benchmark at different dates and in different modes. Martian also cautions that online results aren't a clean head-to-head test, since tools can see each other's comments and teams adopt them on different kinds of repositories. On the offline benchmark (50 hard-to-find bugs, as labeled Sep 8, 2026), Qodo's Deep configuration leads cubic by 0.2 F2 points (65.1% vs 64.9%); F2 weights recall more than precision.

Choosing the right CodeRabbit alternative

  • For GitHub teams with complex codebases: cubic. It has the top F1 score on Martian's online tracker (last-month view, checked October 4, 2026), plus analytics and issue tracker integration. See cubic vs CodeRabbit.

  • For self-hosted requirements: PR-Agent or Qodo Enterprise. PR-Agent is open source with unlimited PRs; you pay for the model and servers and maintain it yourself. Qodo Enterprise adds on-prem and air-gapped deployments with vendor support.

  • For GitHub teams wanting minimal setup: GitHub Copilot. Native GitHub integration, billed through your Copilot plan's AI credits plus Actions minutes, with no additional vendor.

  • For teams on GitLab, Bitbucket or Azure DevOps: Qodo, PR-Agent, or CodeRabbit itself. cubic is GitHub only, so it isn't an option there.

How to test a CodeRabbit alternative

Run each candidate, cubic included, on real pull requests for a week, using the same PRs for each tool so you compare like with like. Trial options as of October 2026:

  • cubic: 7-day free trial with no card, then a free plan with 20 reviews a month

  • Qodo and PR-Agent: Qodo has a 14-day free trial with no card; PR-Agent is free to self-host

  • GitHub Copilot: Copilot Free doesn't include PR review; paid plans start at $10 a month (Pro)
