Background agents that fix PR review comments

AI that handles PR feedback for you

Paul Sanglé-Ferrière

Your teammate just left 5 review comments. Each one requires switching contexts, understanding the issue, writing a fix, and pushing a commit.

What if AI agents could handle review feedback in the background while you keep coding?

Update (October 2026): background agents are now part of the Pro and Max plans as "Fix with coding agents" and are no longer free for all users. By default they push fix commits to your PR branch. You can also route a repository's fixes to Cursor cloud agents running in your own Cursor account. See https://docs.cubic.dev/ai-review/coding-agents for how they work today, and our Cursor vs Codex comparison for more on cloud agents.

After 2 months of internal use with 90% of fixes merged as-is, our background agents are launching in beta.

How it works

When you trigger a background agent to address a review comment, it pushes fix commits to your PR branch by default. If you ask it to "open a fix PR", it opens a separate pull request that targets your PR's branch, with only the code needed for that issue. Either way, you review the change before it merges.

The entire process takes 1-3 minutes while you continue working.

Two ways to trigger

Method 1: Click the button

On GitHub, cubic's review comments have a Fix with cubic button. In cubic, inline review comments have a Generate fix button in the comment actions menu.

Method 2: Tag cubic

Tag cubic in any review comment: "@cubic-dev-ai fix this"

What background agents handle

  • Type errors & missing imports - Fixed automatically

  • Linting & formatting - ESLint, Prettier handled correctly

  • Missing error handling - Adds try-catch matching your patterns

  • Test coverage gaps - Writes tests using your existing patterns

  • Documentation updates - Updates READMEs and JSDoc in your style

  • Simple refactoring - Extracts functions while maintaining functionality

Which plans include background agents

Background agents for AI code review are no longer free for every user. On cubic's pricing page, Fix with coding agents is part of the Pro, Max and Enterprise plans. Auto-fix, which fixes the issues from every review of a pull request, is in beta, and paid plans and trials include an allowance of auto-fix pull requests (auto-fix docs).
